The Nikolaidis family—consisting of father Giorgos, mother Zoi, and their two sons, Apostolos and Alexandros—through hard work and determination, succeeded in building their own successful and profitable business, Agri-Food Ltd., as well as a large agricultural holding with multiple hectares and diverse crops.
The family members have trusted ena Development Consultants since the founding of their business in 2008—for all the funding programs they have implemented, as well as for the agricultural subsidies and initiatives in which they participate.
Agrodiatrofiki Ltd.
Agrodiatrofiki Ltd. is a family-owned business founded 14 years ago, operating in the processing sector and based inMagiko, Xanthi.
Its owners—the members of the Nikolaidis family—have since expanded the company’s original scope, which was focused on the collection, storage, and trade of cereals, by adding the sale of agricultural chemicals, fertilizers, seeds, and animal feed to their offered services.
Today, the company employs 10 people, including members of the Nikolaidis family, who support it in every possible way. It is continuously expanding by leveraging funding programs and serves clients from the regions of Kavala, Xanthi, and Rodopi. Agrodiatrofiki collects large quantities of cereals at its facilities, which undergo artificial drying before being stored in specially designed areas. The company then sells the products to the market. By supplying cereals during the off-peak production season, the business manages to achieve better selling prices.
For the establishment of its cereal drying and storage unit, the company joined the favorable provisions of Development Law 3299/2004, under the guidance of the experienced team at ena Development Consultants. Within the framework of the Development Law, Agrodiatrofiki implemented its investment plan for the construction of silos with a grain storage capacity of approximately 6,100 tons, which are filled 2 to 2.5 times per year to meet operational demand. The project received a subsidy rate of 55% and was successfully completed in June 2010.
Apostolos Nikolaidis: Fortunately, funding programs exist, and businesses like ours can at least be supported at the beginning of an investment—otherwise, the cost of such ventures would be overwhelming.
In 2011, the company was once again included under Development Law 3299/2004 for an investment plan aimed at expanding the existing unit, successfully completing the project in June of the same year.
Recently, the new investment plan submitted by ena Development Consultants on behalf of the company was approved under Development Law 4399/2016, within the scheme “Support for Small and Very Small Enterprises.” The plan focuses on increasing the capacity of the existing unit.
Upon completion of the latest investment plan, an additional storage space will be added in the form of four new silos with a total capacity of 12,804.00 m³ or 9,603 tons, more than doubling the company’s total storage capacity (including both old and new silos) to 20,500 m³ or 15,500 tons.
Apostolos Nikolaidis: We are absolutely satisfied with ena’s handling throughout all these years of collaboration—we only feel like we've gained from it.
Agricultural activity
Alongside the daily operations of the business, the family members cultivate and carefully tend to more than 250 hectares of land they manage, participating—under the support of ena—in agricultural programs aimed at strengthening their activity.
Among the crops chosen by the Nikolaidis family are cereals such as durum and soft wheat and barley, energy crops like sunflower and rapeseed, as well as cotton, sugar beets, tomatoes, and olives.
Apostolos Nikolaidis: Our daily life is tough, as it is for every professional farmer, but we keep going…
The Nikolaidis family has trusted and worked exclusively with ena since 2014—a milestone year for ena Development Consultants, as it was among the pioneers in the region (and beyond) to be certified by OPEKEPE as a Declaration Submission Center. The family's exclusive collaboration with our company for submitting Single Aid Applications for the agricultural parcels they manage is a relationship built on mutual trust and strong cooperation. Despite the significant time commitment required from both sides due to the exceptionally large number of hectares involved, the partnership remains solid and effective.
Apostolos Nikolaidis: I would recommend ena to others with my eyes closed. Where else could someone turn to? What ena has done for the region is truly a social contribution.
Under the guidance of Maria Karatzoglou, an experienced development consultant for the Primary Sector at ena, they also participated in the 1st cycle of the action "Reduction of Water Pollution from Agricultural Activity" under the Rural Development Program 2014–2020. The aim of this five-year initiative is to reduce water pollution not only from nitrates but also from other potentially harmful inputs (such as phosphates and plant protection products). The two farmers in the family—mother Zoi and son Apostolos—have included approximately 190 hectares in the 1st cycle of the action and are currently preparing to submit applications for the ongoing 2nd cycle.
The Marketing Department of ena Development Consultants would like to thank the Nikolaidis family—and especially Apostolos—for the valuable collaboration, the tour of the company’s facilities, and the time he devoted to creating ena’s 5th Business Story. This is especially appreciated during a period when his agricultural activities are at their peak and his free time is extremely limited.
